Venusmussla

“The clam is an extension of my sculptural work, in which I explore hollow spaces and femininity. I was inspired by Sandro Botticelli’s iconic painting, The Birth of Venus, in which the goddess emerges from the sea on a clam shell. In recent years, I’ve tried to find a goddess of love to identify with when love causes pain, and when it requires armor for protection. Only the clam shell was left. I enjoy using elements from my sculptures that add functionality and are easy to relate to, like these plates. I think the plate reflects my artistry here and now.” — Åsa Jungnelius

The collection, which is part of Kosta Boda Artist Collection, launched in 2021.
