New items from Kosta Boda, spring 2007

This year, spring at Kosta Boda pays tribute to Linnaeus and the natural world. Linné, Göran Wärff’s new tableware collection, combines a sense of history with classic optical effects, while the cheeky tulips of Ulrica Hydman-Vallien’s Flower Power series plant us firmly in the present – showing that a love of flowers can be simple and very easy to cultivate.
Stylised foliage, timeless in its simplicity, decorates Anna Ehrner’s new Anna collection.
Olle Brozén, meanwhile, has sought inspiration in the fantastic worlds of glass technology and undersea life and has taken the famous graal technique to new heights in his Underworld series.
As usual, colours and patterns are bright and full of vigour when Kosta welcomes the spring!

Anna
Design: Anna Ehrner
Anna is a timeless set of tableware whose focus is on simplicity and craftsmanship. With its décor of stylised foliage on a robust glass body, this is a collection that can be expected to last. What’s more, it will fit in just about anywhere – mix and match as you choose! Alongside black, it becomes a youthful collection with plenty of attitude; with red, it’s Christmassy and warm. Green shows up the foliage and gives us a foretaste of spring. Paired with a contrasting white, meanwhile, it creates a soft, summertime feel.

Aria
Design: Göran Wärff
Like a choir in which each voice sings with its own unique timbre, the vases of the Aria collection might fittingly be styled “colourful voices”. The clear crystal harmonises perfectly with the down-to-earth colour scheme to give a classic Swedish feel. This year’s newcomers are artistically conceived, generously proportioned bowls in amber, green and lilac that add further depth and harmony to the voices of this colourful choir.

Catwalk
Design: Kjell Engman
Over the last few years, Kjell Engman has focused his design talent on fashion in all its forms. His Catwalk collection now includes such fashion items as shoes and warmly coloured linen vests as well as some highly colourful conversation pieces such as macho men and glamorous belles.
This year’s additions to the fashion show are a dramatic black Madame and a white poncho.

Château
Design: Bertil Vallien
When Bertil Vallien designed his Château collection over 25 years ago, it was an instant success. Over the years that have passed since then, our drinking habits have changed radically, so that today we appreciate wine far more than we did in the eighties. In 2005, to keep up with the new trend, we modified the shape of the wine glasses. Today, it’s the turn of the dessert wine glasses, which are now a little more rounded and more generously proportioned to enhance the bouquet and flavour of the wine.

Flower Power
Design: Ulrica Hydman-Vallien
Ulrica Hydman-Vallien loves tulips and over the years has frequently made use of them, mostly as painted décor. Now, however, she’s gone a step further and is creating tulips as sculptures – robust, rustic flowers whose coloured décor makes each bloom an individual in its own right. Ulrica’s tulips are perfect for the table and make an attractive bouquet in the window. Create a permanent bouquet of spring tulips in beautiful blue, white, green, lilac, yellow, orange or clear glass.

Hearts Grande

Ulrica Hydman-Vallien has been enormously successful with her warm, red-painted hearts. This year, her hearts have grown to gigantic proportions – hand-painted dishes, bowls and side-plates that become colourful works of art unlike any other. Truly, a gift from the heart!

Linné
Design: Göran Wärff
Inspired by Linnaeus, the King of Flowers, Göran Wärff has created a new collection of tableware. With their gently rounded stems and open bowls, the glasses take us back in time, almost as if we were reliving history. The decanter features classic optical effects and is shaped like a bulb in a tribute to Linnaeus’ botanical achievements. The champagne glass stands as tall and proud as a pine, while the little snaps glass has a generously formed bowl.

Mine
Design: Ulrica Hydman-Vallien
Ulrica Hydman-Vallien’s popular Mine collection continues to grow. Tumblers, bowls, side-plates, plates and the versatile MiniMine are now available in the fashionable brown used for interior decoration.
The generously proportioned dish, previously only produced in white and lime, is now also available in blue and black.
Other newcomers this year are a black bowl and a new blue vase. Sweeping veils of colour give each Mine product its own unique appearance.

Minelight
Design: Ulrica Hydman-Vallien
Ulrica Hydman-Vallien has added a small votive to her popular Mine collection. Soft veils of colour shimmer in the warm glow of the tealight and spread a feeling of comfort and good cheer throughout the home. Minelight comes in white, lime, blue, black, petrol and brown and harmonises perfectly with the other products of the Mine collection.

Mirage
Design: Göran Wärff
The vases of Göran Wärff’s new Mirage collection come in two different sizes. Their sober colours – grey/red, green/blue and blue/amber – harmonise subtly with the soft form of the new vases, suggestive of an unexpected meeting between glass and colour. The play of light within the glass adds an extra dimension to the mirage set up in our imagination.

Open Minds
Design: Ulrica Hydman-Vallien
Open Minds is an Ulrica Hydman-Vallien classic. The soft form of the vase contrasts dramatically with the vigorously applied brushstrokes of the décor, while the painted female face is at once warmly inviting yet stern and strong. The vases come in two sizes, one tall and proud, one small, but still proud. Each stands on a dramatic black foot.

Papi
Design: Olle Brozén
Last year saw the arrival of the first vases in the Papi series, and they’re now joined by a pair of gently rounded bowls. Olle Brozén’s poetic butterflies flutter across the surface of the bowls, rust-red and soft brown, drifting across a misty white background. The new bowls are free-blown in the hot shop, while the decorative butterflies are created using a sophisticated relief pattern powdered with coloured pigment. The bowls are available in two different sizes.

Spear
Design: Anna Ehrner
The tiny bubbles in the majestic Spear candlestick glitter like sparkling champagne. Anna Ehrner is widely acclaimed as a past master of the art of centrifuged, uniquely expressive glass. Now she’s abandoned her characteristic lines and drifting colour to focus her design skills on clear glass. Spear comes in three different sizes.

Tempera
Design: Anna Ehrner
Swirling colours bring life and a sense of finely rendered watercolour to Anna Ehrner’s massive crystal. Tempera makes a fine coffee-table centrepiece and is the ideal gift. Previously available in pink and blue, Tempera now also comes in classic white.

Tulipa Grande
Design: Ulrica Hydman-Vallien
Ulrica Hydman-Vallien’s beloved tulips have been with us for many years, and in this year’s Tulipa Grande they have grown so big that they no longer fit on the glass. The new, divided tulip pattern brings an entirely new Tulipa look to the bowls, side-plate and dish, and, in typical Ulrica fashion, the colours are clear and bright. It goes without saying that all the tulips are painted by hand.

Twister
Design: Kjell Engman
Kjell Engman’s Twister collection has been enormously successful for many years and now comes in fresh new springtime colours – blue, lime and orange – while the shape of the conical vases and bowls remains as before. The handsome pitcher, however, is a newcomer to the collection and brings a new sense of harmony to the Twister family as a whole.

Underworld
Design: Olle Brozén
The fish play across the surface of the vase, their tails waving and splashing in the current – it’s a fishy dance above the seaweed viewed through rich graal glass.
Olle Brozén continues to explore the potential of molten glass and in his new Underworld collection has taken the prestigious graal technique to new heights. By incorporating bubbles in the body of the glass, he lures the eye and leads us to believe that there are live fish swimming in the vase. The colours were inspired by the sea – green for seaweed, amber for the sandy bottom and blue for the sea itself.
